Art in and out of School

Audrey Urbach entered an art competition at the Blanton Museum this summer and placed well in the competition.  Lucky for us, this event  sponsored by RBC Wealth Management as part of the Art Human Touch exhibit, means a cash donation for the purchase of additional art supplies at HP.  Thanks Audrey for thinking of your fellow Scotties and I love your winning entry.  Way to go!

Mrs. Matetich and Ms. Workman are hosting a very special science night out at BASS Concert Hall, Sunday, October 21, 7:00 pm.  Come with your family to enjoy Gustav Holt's The Planets, An HD Odyssey, which also features film from NASA Space Explorations.  We will meet at the venue (special lecture at 6:00 pm for anyone interested!) and hope to get a quick group photo before or after the show.  Children and adults of all ages interested in this very special "grown up Fantasia" are welcome to attend - we would especially love to have a strong 5th grade turnout!  Ticket information below, posters of the event in our halls, so check 'em out.  Hope to see you there and thanks TPA as always!

  • The discount for the adult ticket will be the same as what was offered last year – a 15% discount off of the $42 ticket for a new price of $36 each for adults.
  • Student tickets will be $10
  • Just like last year, people will be able to purchase discounted adult tickets next to student tickets. This discount will only be available online.

Have to quickly share a wonderful moment in first grade teacher Katie Ferguson's class.  Her writing workshop was going strong and I loved the management of the process.  Students were sharing their journal entries at the doc camera, student audience members had been given directions to share comments and compliments (all engaged) after each reading, and Ms. Ferguson was busy questioning and clarifying, while writing specific feedback about each piece (ie, details, organization) on post-its.  Immediate and specific feedback, and all very doable and manageable.  Keep writing first graders!

    A piece about gymnastics!

Below, see just one of the things displayed in our halls that made me smile this week.  Check out Ms. Davis' student artwork tied to a decidedly "creepy" Mona Lisa.  Gearing up for all things October!
